Located on the Baħar iċ-Ċagħaq shore, within the Pembroke municipality, in Malta, the White Rocks complex provides breathtaking views of the Mediterranean Sea. On entering the abandoned facility, two large paintings instantly catch your attention, each fully covering the side of a three-story structure, towering tall against the backdrop of the sea. These striking murals, concealed from view from the bustling Coast Road, making them a hidden gem for those who stumble upon them. Both are fascinating and thought-provoking.

One of them depicts a woman with a headscarf (pictured), her look serene but profound, as she holds the world in her hands. The artist, Mark Taylor, also known as Meataxe, signed his name near the bottom, in an area partially covered by a little patch of grass. Taylor himself departed this world last February. The well known 35-year old Maltese street artist James Micallef Grimaud, confirmed to Juliana Zammit (a MaltaToday reporter) that it was indeed painted by Mark Taylor. “The mural shows a woman holding an apple shaped like the Earth. It’s about greed.” He added: “She’s eating the world. The apple is the Earth. It’s very relevant to now.”

In James Micallef Grimaud's opinion, there is an acute need for more public art, to neutralise 'visual pollution'. “There are buildings everywhere; no planning. It’s all concrete. That’s visual pollution”. The White Rocks complex, formally abandoned, is now bursting with street art. Its vivid graffiti and murals, daring and enchanting, entice visitors to contemplate and roam about this thriving, living, vibrant art gallary.

A house's facade in the city center on Railway Street, in Czech Republic's Ostrava. The mural was created by Polish artist Mariusz M-CITY Waras by the end of September 2020.

The mural depicts a horse, the city's historic symbol. It's an allegory, a metaphor, about the aesthetics of urbanism.

Impressive 360-degree street art wrapped onto a 33-meter-high old water tower in Nanning city, in South China's Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region. The artist/s utilised the windows of the old water tower to create impressive 3D-bird cages. Amongst other motifs there is also an owl holding a key in its beak. Captured on film on May 20, 2024. Girl with Balloon (also, Balloon Girl or Girl and Balloon) is a series of stencil murals around London by the graffiti artist Banksy, started in 2002. They depict a young girl with her hand extended toward a red heart-shaped balloon carried away by the wind. The locations for this work include street murals in Shoreditch and the South bank in London on the Waterloo Bridge and other murals were around London, though none remain there.

A 2017 Samsung poll ranked Girl with Balloon as the United Kingdom's number one favourite artwork.

The Swiss-French border cuts right through the Hôtel Arbez Franco-Suisse at exactly the left edge of the facade painting. This territorial border was established in 1862 by the International Treaty of Dappes, when the town of La Cure ceased to be entirely French but got subdivided together with Switzerland, yet leaving the existing structures in place.

Later a French businessman took advantage of this unique geo-political situation, and built a hotel above a grocery store located on the Swiss side of the border, and over an existing pub on the opposite French side.
