Abela’s position is compromised by his own role as the former lawyer of the Planning Authority: in which he must have worked closely with Buttigieg.
The bull has to be grabbed by the horns. A thorough overhaul of the Planning Authority, which has failed us so utterly, needs to be undertaken. The same applies to its co-conspirators, the office of the Commissioner of Planning, and the Kamra tal-Periti.
We have yet to understand how a number of inexplicable permits – some in violation of policies – were approved; and we await redress for past mistakes.
Under Buttigieg there had been many inexplicable policy changes for the worse, including those relating to high-rise buildings, ODZ areas, and petrol stations --- the latter was scaled back only after an obstructionism marathon, and the "resignation" of Buttigieg from the PA.
Clearly the institutions are not working as well as Abela would have us believe.
