    Originally released in 1975 by Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes featuring Teddy Pendergrass's lead vocals, on the group's 1975 album 'Wake Up Everybody', it was nonetheless originally released as a single as a cover by American singer Thelma Houston in 1976.

    Then, in 1986, the song was covered by British synth-pop duo the Communards in a hi-NRG version, featuring jazz singer Sarah Jane Morris as guest vocalist. This recording topped the UK Singles Chart for four weeks in September 1986, becoming the best-selling single of the year in the United Kingdom.
