On Tuesday, 18th January 2022, the members of the European Parliament elected Roberta Metsola Tedesco Triccas as their President. Roberta Metsola received an absolute majority of 458 votes out of 690 cast, becoming the youngest ever President, the first Maltese person to hold the office, and the first woman President since 2002.
