His mother, Mary Ann Maxwell, served on the same Board at United Way with IBM's then CEO, John Opel. Small wonders that he won the contract to supply the initial operating system that would become MS-DOS. Some competitors also accused Gates of plagiarizing their code. 😬
Gates is also, like his father was before him, a Malthusian. Read whatever you like from that! William Gates Snr. was no slouch either, he was very wealthy in his own right.
Lastly and very importantly, vaccines are a huge business. In the early 1900, the than richest family of that time, the Rockefellers, also entered into this lucrative market. Bill Gates the former richest person on Earth, is just following into Rockefeller's footsteps.
